No, there is no required contractor’s license to perform basic handyman services in exchange for money. Such basic handyman services must met the two following conditions:
- The work involves the final component of a structure (e.g., structural elements of a building).
- The total project cost exceeds $500.
However, there are limitations on which services you can provide unless you decide to get a contractor’s license.

- Electrical of any kind

- Alarm system install, repair, or maintenance

- Install or repair irrigation systems that have a backflow preventer connected to a potable (drinking) water supply
- Pressure washing: Clean surfaces with a pressure washer
- Gutter maintenance: Clean and repair gutters
- Flooring: Install carpet, wood, vinyl, laminate, or tile flooring
- Door projects: Replace and repair interior doors and trims
- Cabinets and countertops: Install and repair cabinets and countertops
- Furniture assembling, Install prefabricated tool shed less than 250 square feet in size (may be up to 400 square feet)
- Electrical work: Replace light bulbs and cover plates, home theaters (excluding wiring), hang a flat TV in wall, computer networks
- Plumbing work: Install window A/C units, replace exhaust vent pipes for dryers, replace disposable air filters, unclog drains
